The African National Congress (ANC) leaders have been engaging with communities in the Western Cape, ahead of its 113th birthday celebrations in Cape Town on Saturday.

Party President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his January 8 Statement at the Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha.

Earlier in the week, Rampahosa said the ANC was committed to the renewal and rebuilding of the party.

A member of the National Executive Committee, Lindiwe Zulu, has outlined the ANC’s renewal plan.

This annual statement outlines the ANC’s goals and vision for the year ahead.

Meanwhile,  political analyst Dr Ebrahim Harvey says ANC’s decision to host the celebrations in Khayelitsha might not do much to gain support in the Western Cape.

Harvey says the electoral support base in the province has supported the DA since 2006.

“I don’t know how much it will help the ANC even to resuscitate or revive its electoral support base in the Western Cape, you know, especially given the dismal performance and the huge alienation of the Colored working-class majority from the ANC. They are the chief electoral support base of the DA in the Western Cape. They’ve been turning the DA to power from 2006 nonstop, and it seems to be by a bigger margin each time. Elections and you know next year’s, the 2026 local government elections.”
