The African National congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has cautioned its councillors against the abuse of power.
This was after the party suspended the membership of the Ward 17 councillor in the Mandeni Local Municipality.
A decision was made to remove the councillor after he was implicated in allegations of rape and assault.
The party says his removal comes after the councillor brutally attacked a member of the public. The victim survived the attack but later disappeared.
The victim’s remains were discovered a few months later.
ANC Provincial Spokesperson, Fanele Sibisi, says: “There are two allegations that are fundamental and that have led us to look into our constitution. The first issue is the issue regarding rape. The second issue is the brutal assault of the member of the community. The ANC then took a decision to say even it is an allegation, we are left with no choice but to withdraw his membership for now and we are also calling for his recall from the municipality as a councillor.”
