ANC KZN rejects motion of no confidence against Ntuli

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal says it will not support a motion of no confidence against Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli. The KZN Legislature is expected to debate the motion brought by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party next month.

The ANC forms part of the Government of Provincial Unity with the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the National Freedom Party (NFP).

The party’s provincial coordinator, Mike Mabuyakhulu, addressed the ANC’s Provincial General Council meeting in Durban.

“We will also be reflecting on a number of areas, the governance areas, the economy, unemployment, the working of municipalities and how effectively they are working, so we will do a very broad assessment of  where we are now.”

The motion of no confidence, which has been put forward by the MK Party against Ntuli, will test the strength of the GPU.

Mabuyakhulu says the GPU is intact.

“We are part of the GPU, and the reason that made us take the decision from the onset hasn’t changed. Therefore, the terms of how we have structured the GPU continue and of course, we have been able to engage as partners to be able to improve the framework of governance. The ANC stands fully firmly behind the GPU as it did from the beginning.”

The PTT was given nine months to complete its revival of the party’s structures. Mabuyakhulu says more work has been done, including the strengthening of branches.

“We simply want to be able to put forward facts, the facts that we needed to rebuild and renew were not a walk in the park. Therefore, we were able to establish branch task teams in almost all of the 901 branches in KZN. We had to set up new branch task teams because it is through those branch task teams that we can prepare to have proper branch general meetings where the leadership at the branch levels will be elected.”
