The African National Congress (ANC) is set to formally open interviews for metro mayoral candidates this week ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
The party says that the selection process is currently underway, and the final list of candidates will be made public by the end of May.
The ANC’s National spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says they are looking for people that have extensive experience in governance and a better understanding of the economic structure.
“To have leaders of sound thought, extensive experience in governance, extensive experience in understanding how the economic structure operates- and more importantly to overall thought leadership. We are going to be looking for people that have that level of seniority, but more importantly- any competence without great attitude is a problem. So, balancing the attitude of service to our people, is going to be one of the cornerstone of the process.”
