The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West is expected to formally announce the expulsion of the former Mayor of the Lichtenburg based Ditsobotla Local Municipality Mazwi Moruri and nine other councillors on Thursday.
The party’s provincial disciplinary committee has recommended the expulsion of the affected members.
The members were hauled before the disciplinary hearing few months ago, for bringing the party into disrepute.
A leaked document seen by the SABC shows that the 10 ANC members were facing five charges in relation to not attending caucus meetings, failure to implement decisions to elect Molefe Morutse as the Mayor, sowing divisions in the caucus and breaching their deployment contracts.
The party’s Provincial Secretary Louis Diremelo says they will not tolerate ill-discipline among its deployees.
“We will hear from the PDC now on Thursday in terms of their final decision on the matter of Ditsobotla. If we have to go to by-election, we go to by-elections because it cannot be allowed in the ANC. [They must think] that we are afraid of by-elections and election, they will just disrupt the organisation or the ANC led municipalities, do as they wish not taking mandate. I think the outcomes can surprise many if comrades think that they will disrupt the ANC thinking that we are afraid to go to these by elections,” Diremelo explains.
