ANC in Limpopo dismisses protest in Polokwane as political grudge

The Limpopo African National Congress’ (ANC), Peter Mokaba region has accused the organizers of a protest of being disgruntled after losing the ANC regional conference.

The march was intended to demand the resignation of Polokwane Executive Mayor, John Mpe, and Municipal Manager, Thuso Nemugumoni.

The protesters marched to the premier’s office, police station and the municipality, calling for Premier, Phophi Ramathuba, to put the municipality under administration.

Mpe is accused of receiving kick-backs amounting to millions of rands through his foundation.

ANC Regional Secretary, Lesiba Matsemela, says the allegations leveled against him are politically motivated, ahead of the provincial elections next year

“We are elected. We are the leadership of the region and then we wait for any correspondence from national. If there is anything, they will  not go to Facebook and communicate with structures of the organization. There is a channel of communication. That channel will be the provincial secretary that oversees the regional leadership, but if we see things on Facebook, we can’t take it as legitimate until it has been communicated to us,” says Matsemela.
