The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the appointment of former Premier Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training following a cabinet reshuffle on Monday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday fired Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane. She has been replaced by Buti Manamela who has been serving in the portfolio as the Deputy Minister.
Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube was appointed as Deputy Task Team Coordinator for the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team earlier this year. The team was established to revitalise the ANC’s presence in the province after the party’s decline in the 2024 general elections.
She has extensive experience in public service that include roles as eThekwini Municipality speaker and as the Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
In 2009, Dube-Ncube was elected as Chief Whip of the Legislature of KwaZulu-Natal before being appointed as Cogta MEC.
She was appointed as MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in 2019 followed by another appointment as MEC for Finance in 2020.
She became the first female Premier of KwaZulu-Natal between 2022 to 2024.
In a statement, the ANC in KZN said Dube-Ncube has an impressive track record in leadership.
The party also lauded her commitment to public service.
Dube-Ncube also held international roles in several global organizations.
In May, she graduated with a Doctorate of Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
