ANC leadership addresses members on a way forward regarding the convening of the party’s Eastern Cape Elective Conference in this image captured on 24 March 2026.
The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape has confirmed filing court papers to appeal a recent judgment by the East London High Court to interdict the 10th Elective Conference, which was set to convene on Friday.
The ruling was made after an application was brought by disgruntled party members over their dissatisfaction with the convening of Branch General Meetings.
The court stated that there was insufficient time to address the issues raised.
Meanwhile, the party’s Joe Gqabi branch has also approached the court for an interdict.
Disgruntled branch members say the conference cannot go ahead as they feel their issues were not properly addressed.
Party members have arrived in large numbers at the Orient Theatre, where registration is meant to take place.
