ANC faces SACP for first time in Seshego by-election

The Independent Electoral Commission in Limpopo is conducting a by-election at ward 13, Seshego, Polokwane.

The provincial electoral officer, Nkaro Mateta, says the voting stations opened at seven in the morning and will close at 9 pm in the evening.

The ward became vacant after an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor was removed from the Polokwane municipal council due to misconduct.

For the first time in the province, the South African Communist Party (SACP) has fielded a candidate to contest against the alliance partner, the African National Congress (ANC).

The ward is being contested by EFF, ANC, SACP, Labour Party and All Citizens Party (ACP).

IEC’s Mateta says, “We are ready, yesterday was a dry run because we were conducting special votes and all our presiding and deputy officers have been well trained to handle any situation that they will be facing them during the day. So we are quite happy and our app devices, including the voter management device, are functioning properly. So we do not expect that we’ll have long queues like we did in 2024.” – Reporting by Avhapfani Munyai
