ANC describes late MMC Andile Mngwevu as ‘a principled servant’

The African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni says it has lost a principled, revolutionary servant of the people following the announcement of the passing of the city’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport, Andile Mngwevu.

Mngwevu died when his car was swept away by floods in Chókwè, Mozambique.

He was with three other people.

After a week-long search and rescue operation, their mortal remains were recovered on Tuesday.

The ANC’s Ekurhuleni Regional Secretary Jongizizwe Dlabathi says they are deeply saddened by Mngwevu’s passing.

“The entire movement and the mass democratic structures are devastated and are still in disbelief. It is simply hard to comprehend that comrade Andile Mngwevu is no more. At this point in time, we collectively express our sincere and heartfelt condolences and we wish the family the necessary strength during this difficult moment.”

“We’re equally thankful that his remains and those of others were found, marking a closure of a painful agony of searching for their bodies,” adds Dlabathi.
