ANC contempt case may be paused amid talks

Counsel in the African National Congress (ANC) contempt of court case currently underway at the East London High Court, KuGompo, are discussing conditions of a possible agreement to pause the contempt of court case.

The ANC through its legal representatives, sent communication to the legal representatives of the applicants, that the proceedings of the conference will be suspended until all legal complications including the interim court order are resolved.

The applicants are proposing that Provincial Chairperson Oscar Mabuyane, party Secretary General Fikile Mbalula and National Executive Council (NEC) convenor to the province, Mmamoloko Kubayi face direct imprisonment of 15 months for continuing with the conference despite an interdict against it.

The provincial secretary has also released a letter informing delegates to leave for home, as the conference is suspended until further notice.
