Anant Singh revives R7.5bn Durban Film City project

The R7.5 billion Durban Film City project is seeing renewed progress following decades of legal disputes and municipal hurdles that stalled the beachfront development.

Strategic interventions by the Presidential eThekwini Working Group have cleared the path for veteran producer Anant Singh to move forward with the world-class precinct.

Singh says the landmark development is designed to revitalise the regional economy and permanently transform the South African cinematic landscape.

“The idea was to create a film and entertainment hub which incorporates the industry of film and the other creative industries together with lifestyle and venues, restaurants, themed entertainment type activities. Essentially, what you would have in Hollywood at Universal Studios where you’ve got functioning film production studios and then you have movie theatres, and entertainment areas,” says Singh.
