The case of a man accused of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl, in Soweto, Gauteng, has been postponed to the 27th of January 2025 in the Protea Magistrate’s Court.
Mozambican national Pethe Simiao was arrested last month after a warrant of arrest was issued.
He is facing charges of kidnapping, rape and murder of Amantle Samane.
He also faces charges of contravention of the Immigration Act.
The accused made a brief appearance in the dock before his case was postponed after he abandoned his bail application.
He will remain behind bars until his next appearance at the end of next month.
Scores of community members also gathered outside the court, calling for the accused to face the full might of the law for his actions.
Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting (NPA) in Gauteng says they are confident that they have a watertight case against him.
