Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka outside Soccer City
South Africa under 20 national team head coach, Raymond Mdaka says he cannot be dragged into the debate over his salary. Mdaka’s salary, which is far lower compared to the Bafana Bafana’s coach, has been recently questioned in Parliament after the Amajita’s coach earnings was revealed.
Mdaka, who guided Amajita to clinch the under 20 African Cup of Nation trophy, received a warm welcome in his hometown of Tzaneen in Limpopo on Thursday. Mdaka says he is only focused on doing his job and he cannot stop people talking.
“As a coach, I need to have that heart of accepting some of the things, more especially if they are not in your hands. You cannot stop people from talking as well as how they speak to you, for others it might be quite disturbing. Others might be pleading with you and all these other things but these are the things that we don’t normally focus on, we just allow it as it is and nature will sort it out.”
The home coming ceremony was organised by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.
Mayor Phetole Molapisane says Mdaka’s achievement is a milestone.
“Everyone never thought we can bring this kind of a trophy, we were competing against the best. If you talk about Nigeria and Morocco, these are countries that are long developed but anyway we are proud as Tzaneen like I’ve indicated that we will support coach Mdaka for the efforts that he has made and committed to assist out children.”
