All victims of Vaal scholar transport crash identified: Lesufi


Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed that all the victims of the scholar transport crash in Vanderbijlpark have been identified.

The crash, which happened yesterday, claimed the lives of 12 learners and left others in a critical condition.

The driver of the scholar transport has been arrested and charged with 12 counts of culpable homicide, as well as reckless and negligent driving.

Lesufi was briefing the media in Sebokeng.

“We can now confirm that 12 children passed on. Of all those children, 11 were identified. When we were preparing for this briefing, the last family came forward, and all the children have now been duly identified. Of those injured, five were admitted through two of our hospitals in this province. Five were admitted at Sebokeng (Hospital) and two were admitted at Kopanong (Hospital). It’s only two learners that are now in the Intensive Care Unit. One learner has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit.”
