Residents and businesses across the Durban south region are experiencing water supply outages due to algae in raw water.
The eThekwini Municipality says the bulk water supplier Umgeni-uThukela reduced the water supply at the Durban Heights Treatment Works due to a high presence of algae.
The water distribution challenges have been worsened by the current heatwave that’s gripping Durban, increasing the consumption of water.
The municipality says it’s implementing nightly reservoir closures and dispatching water tankers to affected areas.
These include Chatsworth, Queensburgh, Umlazi and Folweni.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly to allow reservoirs to recover and ensure equitable distribution.
