AgriStar macadamia farming creates more than 400 jobs in Mpumalanga

Nearly 400 job opportunities have been created through the AgriStar macadamia farming and processing supported by the British International Investment in Mpumalanga. This initiative from the United Kingdom (UK) has invested money into a local based macadamia farm. The farm produces macadamia nuts which are exported to the UK.

UK’s Minister for International Development, Jenny Chapman says the UK-South Africa partnership is delivering tangible benefits for local communities and the environment.

“There are wonderful products here in South Africa and this is something we appreciate very much in the UK, it’s a great international investment especially because this facility employs thousands of people locally in the region and produces such great products. This is a great example of working together in a partnership between UK and SA bringing investment and job opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu says the province has built the International Fresh Produce Market- to enable farmers to export their produce easily. Ndlovu says they have engaged their partners to come and invest in the province’s development emerging farmers.

“There are so many investors that want to partner but we have clear plan also as government on how we want to work with our black farmers. We requested here all the countries that are represented here that they must go and persuade their investors, their farmers just to come and assist our black farmers here in Mpumalanga – we want most of them to grow from just subsistence farming to commercial farmers.”
