AG asks KZN CoGTA to help in Umkhanyakude Municipality’s finances

Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke has asked KwaZulu-Natal’s Cooperative Governance Department to intervene after the ANC-led Umkhanyakude District Municipality consistently failed to address material findings made by the AG.

The municipality is said to have failed to implement a credit and debt collection policy, as required by Municipal Finance Management Act. This comes as the municipal council is seeking legal action to interdict a decision by MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi to place the municipality under administration.

The AG has requested a formal report from the MEC by August 15. The MEC will abide by this deadline.”
