Afrikaans culture only exists in Africa: Political activist

Political activist Pieter Kriel says he does not agree with the views of Afrikaners who have moved to the US to be resettled.

Forty-nine Afrikaners have already arrived in the US after President Donald Trump signed an executive order saying they were victims of racial discrimination.

More Afrikaners are expected to join the 49 who are already in America.

About 70 000 South Africans have expressed interest in moving to the US.

Kriel says they will not be able to protect the Afrikaans culture.

He also says their claim that they are fleeing persecution is unfounded.

“It’s impossible for a pupil to be a refugee when there is 7% of the population but somehow manages to still control 72% of the country’s wealth, that is astounding to me. People that flee to another country they don’t line up at the airport – they flee persecution. You cannot protect the Afrikaans culture if you are in exile. Afrikaans culture only exists in Africa. Other countries don’t want your apartheid baggage,” adds Kriel.
