Delegates of Afrika Mayibuye Movement
Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu says the party will seek to win an outright majority in next year’s local government elections.
This comes as the party concluded its first national convention at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus.
Speaking on the sidelines, Shivambu says if there is no outright winner, the movement is open to constructive engagements to help form a stable government.
“We are not postulating any coalition; we are going to contest elections to win outright. If there is no outright winner, we will talk with those who are willing to talk and constitute a government. We are not going to come with arrogant demands.”

Shivhambu says he doesn’t consider himself a politician but rather an activist. He says the party is here to stay and will offer hope to South Africans who have lost trust in the country’s democratic institutions.
