‘AFASA’s Sikhakhane was committed to aiding small-scale farmers’

The late Mbongeni Sikhakhane, KwaZulu-Natal chairperson of the African Farmers’ Association of South Africa (AFASA) who was gunned down on his farm near Pietermaritzburg last week, was committed to helping small-scale farmers succeed, according to Secretary-General of the Association Donatus Dlamini.

Dlamini was speaking at a memorial service for Sikhakhane.

Dlamini says Sikhakhane’s death was a great loss to the farming sector, as he was also instrumental in securing farming equipment from government for small-scale farmers.

“Sikhakhane was the one who was always speaking on behalf of the farmers and fighting for farmers to be free in the space of agriculture. He wanted to make sure farmers benefit all the time,” adds Dlamini.
