Addo Elephant Park receives two new attractions

The Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape has received two new attractions in the form of two male lions.

They were brought from the Khamab Kalahari Reserve.

Park officials say the predators will bring strong healthy genes to the park.

The two male cats have been fitted with tracking collars.

National Parks spokesperson, JP Louw says two other older male lions were also darted and moved to Mountain Zebra National Park outside Cradock.

“The collars will also enable management to reach a fine balance of managing the lion population carefully in relation to the size of the Park and their impact on prey species. Their management forms part of a larger initiative to mimic natural processes that regulate lion social behaviour and population growth, which includes swapping individuals between parks to ensure constant introduction of new genes.”
