Ad hoc committee probing Mkhwanazi claims denies Sibiya’s appearance

Parliament’s ad hoc committee looking into corruption allegations against law enforcement agencies has denied the Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya’s announcement that he will appear before it.

The committee was established to look into threats to national security, following allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of serious corruption in the criminal justice system.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) say they have not yet agreed on who will appear before the committee first.

However, in a letter that SABC News has seen, the committee Chairperson has written to Sibiya to request him to consult with the committee’s legal team.

Sibiya told the media outside the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday that he would appear before the committee next week.

He says, “As you can see, as you know but I will wait for my time to comment at the ad hoc and at the commission. I will be able to open up and say what needs to be said.”
