KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria, September 18, 2025.
The Activists and Citizens Forum has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa and Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia to immediately remove all police officers implicated in corruption at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The commission, which holds its hearings in Pretoria, is investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that senior police officials, including Minister Senzo Mchunu, are corrupt, interfere in policing operations and have links to criminal syndicates.
The Forum’s spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, says the allegations that witnesses have made should be taken seriously.
“It will be grossly irresponsible of the President and the Acting Police Minister to treat these allegations lightly and not remove these implicated officers from the system. President Cyril Ramaphosa cannot wait for the finalisation of the commission.”
“We believe that the scary revelations before the Madlanga Commission and the parliamentary ad-hoc committee clearly show not only infiltration of the criminal justice system, but it is the capture of the criminal justice system by sophisticated criminal gangs and politicians,” adds Bloem.
