Political analyst Ongama Mtimka says ActionSA’s move to merge with two parties is a wise move. He says merging helps small political parties to expand their geographic reach, especially during local government elections.
ActionSA has announced that it will merge with two political parties. The party is expected to formally announce the merger in a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday.
Mtimka says there will be interesting movements among political parties.
“I expect a lot more consolidations and breakups in our electoral system between now and 2029 and even 2033 because we are a political system in transition. And as a result of that you are going to have parties that are very close to government that are fracturing for example while also those that are still building would make every attempt they can to try and consolidate so that they can have a national footprint,” Mtimka.
