ActionSA Parliamentary leader, Athol Trollip.
ActionSA will lead a protest outside the Office of the Minister of Justice in Pretoria today to demand the removal of National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi.
The party cites the NPA’s deep dysfunction and alleged failures under Batohi’s leadership as reasons for seeking her removal.
ActionSA Parliamentary Caucus Leader, Athol Trollip says, “It’s been three years since the Zondo Commission tabled the files, and gave them to the President and we would’ve expected by now that there would’ve been a successful prosecution. We’ve seen people like Zizi Kodwa, getting off through the incompetence of the NPA, and the notorious Omotoso case, where he was released after eight-years.”
“The same prosecutors that botched that case, were reassigned to the corruption case in the Fort Hare University, that has involved supply chain management infiltration, and even assassinations. How do you assign somebody whose been found to be completely [and] inept as a prosecutor in one case, to another even more important case. These are the problems that we have with the NPA – they’re too many to mention,” explains Trollip.
