ActionSA files charges against Tolashe for failing to declare gifts

ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James is expected to lay criminal charges against Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe at the Cape Town Central Police Station today.

The move follows allegations that Tolashe failed to declare luxury vehicles allegedly received from Chinese officials.

The allegations have raised concerns about transparency and compliance with parliamentary disclosure rules.

James says the charges relate to what she believes may constitute corruption and ethical breaches.

“It will be for corruption, we believe that these gifts, it could be alleged that she obviously received them in the form of gratification. We’re not sure for what, that is what the investigation will reveal, and those other charges that we will be laying today. We will also be reporting this matter to the ethics committee in parliament, also for violating the code, in terms of obviously not disclosing these vehicles to parliament,” said James.

She says the matter will also be referred to Parliament’s ethics committee for further investigation.
