The EFF protest in Limpopo.
Action SA leader in Limpopo, Victor Mothemela, says despite ideological differences, they joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) march against the Polokwane municipality to fight for the rights of residents.
Supporters of the two parties marched side by side to the Polokwane municipal offices. Their grievances include high water and electricity bills, as well as allegations of the prioritisation of foreign nationals in business and employment opportunities.
Mothemela says the parties’ contrasting views on policies cannot stop them from collaborating for the benefit of the people.
Mothemela adds, “People have voted for the Action SA and EFF, and people are still going to vote for us next year. The issue of foreign nationals, I am not going to entertain it now, but what I am going to say is that as Action SA, we say no to illegal immigrants and jobs for South Africans and spaza for locals.”
Residents in Polokwane, Limpopo, want the municipality to resolve what they call the erratic billing system. Residents joined the EFF march to demand improved services and prioritisation of locals in job opportunities.
The marchers, led by EFF, are accusing the municipal officials of hiring foreign nationals. They also want the executive mayor John Mpe to resign.
Some residents say that they can no longer afford to pay the rates.
“We don’t have water, and our electricity bills are very high, and they keep increasing. We are here to fight for our rights because we are suffering. We are tired of the municipality. We pay our bills every month, but they keep increasing,” says one of the protestors.”
