Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala seen appearing before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mpumi Mpofu has denied that the entity had a planned deal to have a private terminal at OR Tambo International Airport for alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi Cat Matlala’s company.
This is after reports that Matlala had been engaging with a private bank to fund a R70 million private terminal at the airport.
Mpofu briefed the media on ACSA’s performance during the festive season and future infrastructure development plans.
Mpofu also indicated that she has never met or spoken to Matlala.
“On our records, we can’t find the Cat Matlala-associated product. We just can’t find it. So, there is a number of possibilities within that maybe it was discussed with a former employee that left and we are not able to trace it. It’s not in our records. At least there were indications that it wasn’t as if it was his company, it was with another company that might be with us, and they were moving in that direction. We really don’t know, but on our records, we can’t find it. It might be somebody can enlighten us, and tell us where to find it and we’ll find it, and look at it and see who presented it, for what reason. Was it treated as unsolicited or it was just an idea in somebody’s mind. But it hasn’t entered our system. It has been considered, it seems, to have a security link. We are just lost. We are as lost as you are on this matter.”
