Five accused in the former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa murder trial appear in the High Court in Pretoria on Apr 22, 2022.
Accused No.: 1 in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Muzi Sibiya, has demonstrated how he was allegedly assaulted at Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand. This follows the In-loco inspection where one of the five accused alleges he was assaulted by the police.
Sibiya alleges he was assaulted at the Ekurhuleni municipal building not far from the police station following his arrest in May 2020.
A large police contingent keeping guard of the convoy left the High Court in Pretoria with all the accused and court officials to Vosloorus.
Upon arrival, Sibiya demonstrated how he was allegedly assaulted, kicked and suffocated on the pavement outside the Ekurhuleni municipal building.
“They made me to sit down here. I was handcuffed like this. I was seated like this that’s when they had put over the plastic. And then this particular gentleman, which I got to know later as Gininda, then appeared. They then moved towards the vehicle and had a meeting,” says Sibiya.

He says the alleged assault at the Vosloorus site happened on two separate dates, 30 May and 5 June 2020.
Mnisi: And on the 5th of June 2020?
Sibiya: On the 5th it was fewer of them. Although I can’t say this is a specific place, I was at all times handcuffed, but there were no leg irons on my feet. And then I was made to sit like this, handcuffed when they then started to put a plastic over me and started to assault me. After the assault we then went to Alberton.

However, Brigadier Gininda denies the assault claims and also that Muzi was taken to the municipal building. Instead, Gininda took the court to the nearby police station where he says Sibiya made the admission for his alleged involvement in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
“I drove in my car and I parked right here. And the pedestrian entrance is just opposite where I parked. This is where we parked and this is where I had a discussion with him. The entrance to that building is a stand-alone building with its own entrance. When you come here, it’s a stand-alone building,” says Gininda.
What was seen on location will be placed on record on the 21st of July when the trial resumes.
