Accused in Zeerust initiation school murders to hear bail verdict

2 minutes

One of the four men accused of the gruesome deaths of five teenage boys at an unregistered initiation school in Zeerust in the North West is expected to appear before the Lehurutshe Magistrate’s Court today for a bail verdict.

This marks their seventh court appearance since their arrest.

The other three accused previously abandoned their bail application.

They all face multiple charges, including five counts of murder, two counts of violating corpses, and one count of defeating the ends of justice.

The case stems from an incident in December 2023 when five teenage boys were allegedly abducted and forced to attend an unregistered initiation school where they were mutilated.

The burnt remains of three boys were later discovered by their families, while two others remain missing.

One of the grieving mothers whose son is among the deceased, expressed her pain and frustration, saying the ordeal has hurt her. She adds that some parents have not found closure about their children.

”Justice must be served so that these boys are sentenced to life in prison for the brutal way they killed our children. Our kids suffered terribly and that pain continues to hurt us deeply. Two of the missing children still haven’t been found and these suspects know where they are. They must reveal their whereabouts so the parents can find peace as they are crying day and night. No parent can rest peacefully without knowing what happened to their child.”
