The investigating officer in the Pienaar mass shooting, Ben Nkambule, says one of the two men accused of killing nine people at a local tavern should not be released on bail.
Bongani Nkosi is applying for bail at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court near White River.
Six people were fatally wounded and others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Nkosi has advanced his reasons why he should be released on bail. Nkambule says Nkosi tried to evade arrest by opening a false kidnapping and robbery charge, soon after he allegedly committed the mass shooting.
“Your worship the applicant tried to evade being arrested, worship there’s a case here in court, your worship the way he was arrested he did not submit himself to the police station. The applicant went to the police station to open a charge of kidnaping and robbery trying to cover up the mass shooting which is before this court.”
