Defence Counsel in the former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Adv. Charles Mnisi has told the High Court in Pretoria that analysis of a dental examination does not show that accused number 3, Mthobisi Mncube, had a gold tooth.
Mnisi has cross-examined Cellphone Analyst Sergeant Moses Mabasa.
Mncube and four others are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder in 2014.
Photos presented by Mabasa and retrieved from Mncube’s phone memory card show him with dreadlocks and a gold tooth, similar to descriptions from eyewitness statements.
However, Mnisi says a doctor’s conclusion states that there is no evidence of a gold inlay.
He says, “The right upper canine is questionable for abrasion or marginal preparation, which means they could see something on the right upper canine, marginal preparation. It means maybe something happened to it.”
“We don’t know what, however, no gold is currently visible in the mouth. In other words, they are saying they cannot see that, or he could not see that there was ever a gold insertion in the mouth,” Mnisi adds.
