Accused 1 in Meyiwa trial admits knowing state witness’s father

Accused number one in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has admitted to knowing the father of Constable Sizwe Zungu, however, maintains he did not know the key state witness in 2014.

Muzi Sibiya has been under cross examination at the High Court in Pretoria where he is appearing alongside four co-accused.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand.

Constable Zungu is the state witness that placed all five accused at a hostel in Vosloorus 26 October 2014 when the alleged hit was carried out.

State Prosecutor Charles Baloyi asked Sibiya how he knew Absolom, who is Zungu’s father.

Sibiya: Yes, I’ve known him for some time. He’s the person that very built a creche around the place where we were staying.

Baloyi: So, you lived in the same neighbourhood as Mr. Infashesi Absalom Zungu. You maintain that you did not know Constable Zungu?
But how if he’s the son to Nhlahlezi who lived in your neighbourhood, how come you don’t know Constable Zungu?

Sibiya: Constable Zungu did not grow up back home or the villages.

Sibiya is expected back on the stand Tuesday morning.
