The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says it’s investigating Gauteng’s online learner placement system.
It says their provincial office is inundated with complaints of unplaced learners for the 2025 academic year.
The SAHRC has previously raised concerns over the slow placement of learners.
The commission has called on parents and guardians of unplaced learners to lodge complaints so that it can determine the extent of the problem.

SAHRC Gauteng Manager Zamantungwa Mbeki says it is also concerned about the placement of learners with special needs.
“We’re also concerned about the placement of learners in LSEN schools and the availability of those schools that cater for special needs children and that’s why we need the public to come to us so that we can understand the different categories of issues that exist. So, what we need is to categorise the different issues and then once we categorise, each category needs to be thoroughly investigated.”
At the beginning of the 2025 academic year, parents and guardians flocked to district offices hoping to secure a place for their children in schools.
