Police officer shot in Limpopo, rushed to hospital

A Limpopo police officer has been shot and wounded at Mashishing village outside Burgersfort in Limpopo. The officer has been taken to hospital.

Police Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the off-duty officer was ambushed by five armed men while parking his bakkie.

Mashaba says the suspects took the officer’s service pistol and his bakkie.

“An off-duty police official stationed at Burgersfort was parking his white Toyota Hilux bakkie outside Mashishing village next to library gardens when a group of five unknown armed men approached him. They opened fire on his upper body and the member came out of his vehicle in an attempt to defend himself and only to be shot again in the lower body and left unconscious. The suspects then fled the scene with his service pistol and two cellphones,” says Mashaba.

The officer is the second officer to be shot in as many days.

In the North West, police have launched a manhunt for suspects who fatally shot one of their own at Randlespark in Klerksdorp yesterday.

Police management in the province have condemned the incident were Sergeant Fundiswa Motlhaoleng was killed.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the case is being investigated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.

“According to information, the member who is stationed at Jouberton Visible Policing, was shot by unknown suspects while in her private vehicle and on her way to work and fully in uniform. The incident took place on Taljaart Kruger Street, Randlespark where three empty cartridges and ammunition were found. Motlhaoleng’s body was found with what appeared to be gunshot wounds on the right jaw and hand, respectively. A black Volkswagen Polo vehicle with four occupants, was allegedly spotted driving off from the scene at a high speed,” says Mokgwabone.
