The Lutheran Church says the aim of the first session of Professor Sibusiso Bengu’s memorial service is to comfort the bereaved family.
Close friends and family attend the private session at the church in Eshowe, northern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.
Mourners are attending the second session which features tributes.
Professor Bengu died last week at the age of 90.

Bengu’s Official Funeral Category 2 will take place at the main campus of the University of Zululand.
The church’s Reverend Bongani Xulu says, “In a service like this it is a day where we speak about with about the departed, we remember the departed when we say I believe in the Holy Spirit and the church worldwide. It is also about the communion of the important people are those who are leaving to comfort them we do pray for the departed.”
