Gauteng COGTA calls for water alternatives during maintenance

The Gauteng Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Department has directed municipalities to ensure that there is an alternative water supply as Rand Water embarks on its planned infrastructure maintenance.

Phase one maintenance is due to take place from May 29 to June 2.

It is expected to leave some areas with poor pressure or no water.

The department has instructed that there should be sufficient water tankers for residents.

Spokesperson Theo Nkonki says they met with municipalities who presented their preparedness status.

“COGTA is committed to enhanced monitoring and the activation of emergency response mechanisms to ensure rapid intervention where required through the halting operations centre on water security housed at the provincial disaster management centre in Midland. COGTA will be monitoring and supporting municipalities during their period for rapid response.”
