Bloemfontein residents urged to refrain from looting, vandalism

Mangaung Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi has urged residents of Bloemfontein in the Free State not to participate in criminal acts of looting and vandalism.

Some shops owned by foreign nationals in the city have remained closed following the looting that started Sunday and lasted into the early hours of Monday.

Meanwhile, Nthatisi says he has engaged with various officials to augment equipment that will partially fix the access roads for taxis.

The mayor was reacting to the shutdown that has been called by National Service Delivery Forum in the city, in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu.

The group is calling for the termination of outsourcing and privatisation, as well as the suspension of municipal officials and service providers implicated in corruption and nepotism.

Police are monitoring the affected areas.
