The City of Johannesburg has agreed to establish a preliminary Distribution Agency Agreement with Eskom in a major bid to tackle its crippling electricity debt and billing challenges.
This follows an intensive two-day intervention meeting convened by Energy and Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, alongside Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero and Eskom CEO, Dan Marokane.
The high-stakes talks were triggered by the city’s mounting R5.2 billion debt owed to the power utility.
Ramokgopa says he’s confident the lights will be on in Johannesburg this winter.
