Brown Mogotsi back in court for a bail application

Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is expected to apply for bail at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

Mogotsi faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating the ends of justice and perjury for allegedly staging a hit on his life in November last year.

The bail application was postponed last week, after the state asked for more time to verify Mogotsi’s home address.

Mogotsi was arrested on May 15, immediately after appearing before the Madlanga Commission on various allegations related to corruption.

National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe revealed that ballistics tests linked the cartridges found at the scene of Mogotsi’s alleged hit to other crimes, including that of armed robbery. While the police are still looking for the firearm, Mogotsi’s legal representative indicated that he didn’t own one.
