DA to monitor Charlotte Maxeke Hospital repair deadlines

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has welcomed the Public Protector’s report into delays in repairing fire-damaged sections of the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

The report found that the Gauteng Health and Infrastructure Development departments delayed in using allocated funds to restore services following the fire in 2021.

DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Health, Jack Bloom, says patients are still suffering the consequences of the delays, with parts of the hospital not yet fully repaired.

“The DA will be monitoring the tight deadline that has been given to the Premier and the heads of departments to finally fix this hospital. Patients really deserve a fully functional hospital, this is supposed to be our flagship hospital in the province, yet it remains crippled because of infrastructure problems,” Bloom adds.
