Body recovered following Plastic View shack fire

Tshwane Emergency Services have discovered the body of a resident during search and recovery operations.

The discovery follows a devastating shack fire that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Plastic View Informal Settlement in Moreleta Park east of Pretoria.

Firefighters say they found the deceased in the debris, with indications that they were unable to escape.

Authorities say mop-up operations are continuing, while emergency personnel conduct further searches.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Confirmed assessment by our Emergency Services Department:

•59 shacks were impacted by the fire at the Plastic View Informal Settlement.
•154 adults and 39 children have been displaced.
