DIRCO slams claims that Nigerians, Ghanaians are being killed in SA

The International Relations Department has quashed allegations that Nigerians and Ghanaians are being killed in South Africa.

This as tension involving locals and migrants continues in parts of South Africa.

The department’s spokesperson Chrispin Phiri says there is no credible evidence to prove that migrants are being killed.

He was speaking at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Foreign Ministers’ gathering at the Kruger National Park.

Phiri adds, “Initially, there were rumours that Ghanaians have been killed. There’s no official record of any Ghanaians being killed. We’ve also seen the same thing purportedly said by the Nigerians, that Nigerians are being killed in South Africa, traditional extrajudicial killings. Nothing of the sort has emerged in the way of evidence. So, we’ve really called upon them, let’s not be alarmist in dealing with this issue. Let’s look at it respectfully. Secondly, if people want to repatriate their citizens and the citizens want to leave the country, they are most welcome.”
