The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured settlement agreements worth R25 million linked to the irregular COVID-19 school sanitising contracts awarded by the Gauteng Department of Education.
The agreements follow a 2022 Special Tribunal ruling that set aside irregular procurement contracts worth over R430 million.
The SIU says the contracts were awarded without following proper supply chain processes and that some service providers charged excessive amounts for the work performed.
SIU spokesperson, Selby Makgotho, says some entities have agreed to pay back the money within seven days.
“ The SIU has concluded settlement agreements with some service providers linked to Chachulani Group Investments, who have agreed to pay R25 million in full within the next seven days.”
