North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi and ANC Provincial Executive Committee members visit Bushy Maape’s home.
The family of the former North West Premier Bushy Maape says they have lost a humorous academic who loved mathematics even as a young activist in South Africa’s liberation struggle.
Maape died last weekend after a short illness at the age of 68 in Johannesburg.
He will be laid to rest this weekend in Vryburg.
Maape has been accorded a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 1 by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
His younger brother, Neo says he was like a parent to him.
“He actually liked mathematics a lot but unfortunately, because of his arrest he couldn’t pursue his studies in mathematics.”
On Tuesday, Premier Lazarus Mokgosi lead a delegation of the Provincial Executive Committee to Maape’s home to pay homage him.
Mokgosi says, “As provincial government we respectfully came here to pay homage to one of our greatest stalwarts, one of our heroes, our veteran Bushy Maape, who was the former premier of the North West Province.”
