Home Affairs Committee monitors protests against undocumented immigrants

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs says it is closely monitoring the protests against undocumented foreign nationals in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

This follows days of tension with dozens of immigrants still camped outside city’s Diakonia Centre.

Civic organistion, March and March is marching against undocumented foreign nationals in the country.

Chairperson Musa Chabane says the committee has previously met with the organisation on the issue.

Chabane adds, “As a committee, we believe that government, the executive and the security cluster will keep an eye on this issue and act on the memorandum submitted by the civic organisation March and March. We met with the organisation before, and they explained the issue they are raising. They have also called on us to act according to South African law.”
