Prosecutor suspended over absence in Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni case


The National Prosecuting Authority’s Head, Andy Mothibi says the Kwaggafontein State Prosecutor who was a no a show in a case involving prominent businessman, Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni has been suspended pending an internal investigation.

The prosecutor was supposed to have led the state in Sibanyoni’s extortion case on Monday, but was unavailable in court.

 

The case was as a result struck off the roll. The prosecutor had allegedly cited safety issues as the reason behind his absence in court.

Mothibi says the office of the National Director of Public Prosecution (NDPP) is conducting an investigation.

“It is important that we collate and gather important information. We have got a division that is called the Office of Ethics and Accountability that investigates matters of this nature internally. So they were given instruction to investigate speedily and report back, if it is truly an issue of security we will find out.”
