Death toll from recent severe weather conditions rises to 18


The death toll from the recent severe weather conditions has risen to 18. Most of the fatalities were recorded in the Western Cape.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, has passed on his condolences to the families of the deceased.

His spokesperson, Pearl Maseko-Binqose says, “A total of 11 weather-related deaths have been confirmed in the Western Cape; three in the Northern Cape; two in the Free State province; one in the North West and one in Mpumalanga. Disaster Management teams and relief organisations remain on the ground assisting affected communities and coordinating emergency response efforts. Government continues to work with provincial and local authorities to provide support restore essential services and ensure the safety of residents.”
