Madlanga Commission hears Khan allegedly interfered with drug burst

The police commander attached to the Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre at the Zonkizizwe Police Station, south east of Johannesburg, Marumo Magane, has described a tense interaction with senior Crime Intelligence official Feroz Khan while testifying at the Madlanga Commission.

The interaction allegedly took place in Aeroton, Johannesburg, on the day of the 715-kilogram cocaine bust.

Magane, who allegedly lacked experience in drug bust operations, was among the first officials at the crime scene alongside traffic officer Samuel Mashaba.

He further alleged before the Madlanga Commission that Major General Khan interfered with their operation at Aeroton and prevented the K-9 unit from conducting a search of the warehouse.

“He asked who was the driver of the bakkie, which was loaded with the black bags, and I answered it was me. He then instructed me to go inside the bakkie. Then a big argument ensued between Major General Khan and Chief Mashaba, whereby Major General Khan ended up disarming Chief Mashaba of his service firearm and stopped the guys from searching the warehouse. I was made to sit in the car while I was photographed as if I’m a suspect,” Magane told the Commission.
